Teerenpeli

Palo

Age: NAS

Abv. 46% vol

Teerenpeli distillery is celebrating their 20th birthday. In honor of that they are releasing a new core range whisky called Palo. It's a smoky NAS whisky matured in Sherry casks. It will be available in 1st of September in their restaurants and 5th of September in shops. I visited the distillery last week and got to taste this before the official release.

Nose: Smoke, ashes, thin menthol so basically this Leijona tar candy from Finland. The sweetness starts to take ground and brings in the red berries and christmas spices. The smoke takes a step back and is rippling at the edges ready to step back in. There's some almond notes also.

Taste: Smoked christmas spices and red berries are first feeling and it's beautifully in balance. The smoke takes the lead again with some pepper notes.

After: Bitter almonds, nuts and smoke. Sherry sweetness is walking side by side with the smoke and it's taking the lead after a while. Then hits the tongue twister, this dry sweet notes that really rolls the tongue. When it fades a way it makes room for the smoke to roam back in. The feeling of balance is heavily present with this whisky and it's a bit disappointment that the after taste is only medium length as it brings the whisky together.

Great whisky from Teerenpeli. Smoke, sweetness and spiciness beautifully balanced. If smoky sherry matured whiskies are your thing, you don't have to step out the Finnish borders to get it.
