Advent Calendar 2023: Day 4

Updated: Dec 8, 2023

Today, we're stepping out of Scotland, but we're not venturing (yet) too far. We're heading to the neighboring island of Ireland, specifically to the city of Waterford. Situated along the River Suir, the Waterford Distillery was established in 2015. Mark Reynier acquired the Waterford brewery in 2014, upgraded the equipment for distillation, and in December 2015, the first batches were distilled. While Waterford also has column stills on the premises, the focus is particularly on malt whiskey.

Waterford also operates in its own unique way. Tonight's whiskey belongs to the Single Farm Origin series, where each whiskey comes from an individual Irish farm. For tonight's whiskey, that place is Bannow Island in the south of Ireland. Each bottle in this series carries a TÉIREOIR code, providing additional information on the website. The code for this particular bottle is F014E01-02. The wealth of information available for each whiskey in this series is impressive and undoubtedly one of the most fascinating aspects explored in the world of whiskey.

You can find everything you need to know and more about the whiskey behind the link, but some key details include the age of the whiskey (not found on the bottle), which is 3 years, 10 months, and 22 days. The bottling strength is 50%, and the batch size is 9000 bottles. I acquired my bottle from the Whisky Auctioneer.
