Advent Calendar 2023: Day 18

It's time for a "Teeling with a Feeling"!!! I have several great whiskey memories with Teeling. My first experience with Teeling involved pairing sushi and whiskey, and although the combination might sound unusual, I highly recommend giving it a try.

The distillery is owned by the Teeling family that has a long history with Irish whiskey. The first mention dates back to 1782 when Walter Teeling founded a distillery in Dublin. Fast forward almost to modern times, to 1987, when John Teeling purchased the Cooley potato alcohol plant and transformed it into a whiskey distillery. In 1988, Cooley's distillery expanded operations by acquiring the Kilbeggan whiskey distillery. After selling Cooley and Kilbeggan to Beam Suntory in 2011, the family decided to establish a new venture, the Teeling Whiskey Company. In 2015, they opened a new distillery in Dublin, the city's first in 125 years. Currently leading Teeling Whiskey Company are John's sons, Jack and Stephen Teeling.

For me, Teeling has been one of the most prominent brands in the resurgence of Irish whiskey. Special mention also goes to Teeling's TikTok presence.

In the glass today is Teeling Single Malt, part of the distillery's core range. It's finished in five different wine casks (Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy, Cabernet, and Sauvignon). Bottled at 46% ABV, this whiskey carries no age statement and was bottled in 02/2018. Rumor has it that it might be available in Alko during the coming year.
