Advent Calendar 2023: Day 13

Lucia's Day, the celebration of light. Hopefully, this whisky from the Scottish Highlands brings joy and light to this evening. The distillery was relatively unknown to me for a long time, but this year, I finally had the opportunity to explore it more closely. This happened when I exchanged several samples with another whisky enthusiast. I provided him with Feis Ile whiskies, and in return, I received 14, 18, 21, 30, and 36-year-old whiskies.

So, tonight's whisky comes from the Tomatin distillery. Established in 1897, this distillery has transitioned from being a bulk whisky producer to a single malt brand. In the late '70s, the distillery produced 12 million liters of spirit annually for sale, whereas the current production is around 2.3 million liters. This shift warms the heart of an old whisky romantic.

The evening's whisky takes its own path, avoiding the footsteps of the core range. It's a single cask bottling crafted to commemorate Tallink's 30th anniversary. Distilled on January 29, 2009, and bottled on April 18, 2019. So, it's aged for 10 years and bottlet at strength of 52%. The bottle number is 021/279, and it's matured in a first-fill Bourbon cask.
